Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.
Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton manager - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a leading candidate for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a new head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
